PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION
Your body grew this extraordinary organ to grow your baby…
let’s honor it and give it a second life to nourish you.
Placentophagy (consuming the placenta after birth) is not a widely accepted practice in the medical community. It is controversial because there simply is not adequate research about the effects of dehydrated placenta on the human postpartum body. Western medicine values data, so it is understandable that placenta consumption is not endorsed by doctors and other medical professionals. However, as this practice becomes more popular, science is catching up with some much needed research. (I’m not really selling my service, am I…)
While large-scale studies may be lacking at present, preliminary studies have found substantial quantities of several valuable nutrients and hormones in dehydrated placenta capsules. These studies have also determined that there is no presence of toxic elements. So, in the absence of significant evidence, and with the confirmation that placentophagy is not harmful, we can look to the abundance of anecdotal evidence. The truth is, people who have consumed their placenta have reported immense benefits and felt as though this amazing organ served them twice.
Some common benefits of placentophagy include an increase in milk supply, more stable moods, and an overall feeling of greater balance and well being during the early postpartum days. There are arguments about whether or not placenta capsules are truly physiologically effective or if symptoms are influenced simply by the placebo effect. But hey, if there’s no harm, who cares if it’s just the placebo effect?! Whatever makes you feel supported during that precious time is unquestionably valuable.

There are two methods for encapsulation: lightly steaming the placenta or processing the placenta raw. Each method has its own benefits for certain bodies and seasons, and beneficial herbs can be added during the steaming process if desired.
